GAME OF THRONES: ARE YOU PLAYING A GAME OR ARE YOU GAMED?

The Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama TV series set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos.  In its first and third series respectively, it features members of noble houses in a civil war for the Iron Throne of the seven kingdoms of Westeros and the attempts of the exiled ruler (scion) to reclaim the throne. Although this is a controversial series, it still explores certain issues like social heirachy, religion, loyalty, corruption, civil war, crime and punishment. It attests to the power of imagination and inspired by it, I’d like to ask: does your imagination give birth to life (e.g. like the game of thrones), or are you gamed by it- i.e. are you toast to your imaginative capabilities? Stand up today, and do something creative with that bountiful imagination of yours. Wish you a blissful week!

KURT COBAIN

About 20 years ago, at age 27, a famous musician by the name Kurt Donald Cobain took his own life. And though his name might not ring a bell in the brains of most youths of today, he certainly was a force to reckon with back in the day. Why should this discussion be focused around a dead man? Simply to tell us, to remind us, that having it all- youth, good looks, fame, strength, power and fans doesn’t guarantee happiness. This man was often reported as uncomfortable and frustrated, and as believing his message and artistic vision were misunderstood by the general public. He was also a heroin addict. Certainly, it doesn’t please me to make a scapegoat of a man who once plied the earth with my words, but really, it gets me thinking, what would I be thought of as tomorrow? If getting all that we so much strive for in terms of material wealth doesn’t give us peace, what does? True peace can only be gotten from God, accessed through Christ. That’s a brief, encompassing summary. ...

THE OUTSTANDING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PEACE AND ORDERED CHAOS

A state of peace and orderliness is different from one of ordered chaos, which is the state in which there is an atmosphere of pretence that there is peace. When there is peace, there is definitely peace, and when its chaotic? Well then, it is simply that-chaotic. Instead of looking for and trying to make peace, man would rather order his chaos. But that is definitely not the best of conditions to live under. We should search for peace at all costs, for therein, we’d find joy, hope and love likewise.

THE BEAUTY OF NOVELTY

Novel/new things take us by surprise, many atimes. We are unexpected, shocked, marveled at them. In as much as they are unexpected to us, I have discovered that novelty is good, because it unravels and unwraps us. Sometimes, it brings us face to face with ourselves and we have nowhere to run to. Face novelty when it comes your way, for you might never have thought of taking certain steps, or of climbing certain heights without novel situations. And even if you do not win a nobel prize by facing your outstanding novel situation, you would have faced your mountains, and have dealt with them!

IT’S BENIGN UNTIL YOU SAY IT’S MALIGNANT.

Benign: Harmless Malignant: Capable of causing harm, or leading to death Long topic…yeah. We’ve all seen something work because of either our own or someone else’s determination.  And we call it the power of positive thinking, faith, strength of purpose etc. Well, just a quick reminder: our thoughts determine what we see. A situation is harmless(benign), until we make it metastasize by calling it malignant. And usually, we start thinking of it as malignant first, even before voicing out that we think. The elaboration of a relatively tiny issue starts from our mind. Therefore, we need to cut off every malignant thought, right from our minds, before they cause the harm they are capable of causing. Don’t you think the world would be better if we had less malignant thoughts? It definitely would.

GOD GIVES CALOR!

A lot of times, I lose motivation. It’s happened so frequently that I’ve lost count and my only saving grace at such times is the grace that God gives me to praise him. You see, I believe in the power of praise. And you’d definitely agree with me that after dancing vigorously, a lot of heat is produced- which by the way is as a result of rapid metabolism (catabolism to be precise). “Calor” is the latin word for “heat”. When you’re not passionate about something, the lack of excitement translates to lack of calor and the truth is there is no calor without strength. The oil of gladness, the garment of praise, the strength to have calor and passion can only be continually infused into the spirit. The most outstanding of this infusion of grace can only come from GOD. Need long-lasting calor? Ask God, he gives to all men whatever they ask, provided they can conceive it in their minds and it is in accordance to his will!

INTRACTABLE...

Intractability refers to a state of high complexity, a difficult state or one that cannot be manipulated, controlled or resolved easily. As a rule, whatever is readily resolved cannot be called intractable. Some easy situations can be transformed into intractable ones when we complicate them. Just like some diseases are highly intractable due to generation of resistance by the pathogenic (disease-causing) organisms e.g. development of antibiotic resistance to certain antibiotic drugs due to overuse, humans are resistant to change when they become set in their ways. Habits are harder to break than spontaneous acts or decisions- definitely! Please, you do not have to wait till a negative response becomes a habit before you change it, and also you do not have to wait till a disease becomes intractable before giving it adequate/appropriate treatment.
