A GENERATIONAL LABEL

Discoveries have been mostly made by people of the previous generations...thus saving lives, restoring hope in most fields. And while it might seem that we are progressing with the technological craze of our time; our mental and intellectual capabilities seem to be a little dumbed down.
Otherwise, why do we witness so much less of inspired groundbreaking discoveries and much more of aimless sharpshooting?
And why do we follow so dogmatically, the rules and principles laid down by men in centuries past, without even questioning their efficacy in present times?
Why do we have more professionals who lack the spirit of the profession and thus...do anything but profess?
I think we should be done with cramming and pouring out stuff...
Let us begin to discover...
Let us rise to the challenge of our time;
Let us refuse to be dumbed down.

WANNABE INTERN

Week 2 Message to the Pre-Intern: don’t lose hope! Week 2, for me, was 2 months post-induction. This was when the wait began to sink in. You mean I’ve been home for two whole months? By now, I was literally chewing on my fingernails. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t scared of getting a space, but I certainly wasn’t confident about any place anymore. That is when I began to write this book. Today is the 12th of September and I sit at the dining table in my parents’ house, typing at 11:27pm (because well, I have an editing job to finish up, but mostly because I don’t have to go anywhere tomorrow morning). If I don’t want to, I don’t even have to take a bath tomorrow morning because well, I can stay indoors all day! (I most likely will stay indoors, except for those few minutes when I step out to buy hot akara for my akamu). I am spent. You know, I have applied to a couple of places now. Let me start with the first: LS Health Service Commission At the State Health servic...
SALIENT LESSONS FROM THE CORONARY ARTERIES The coronary arteries provide blood supply to the heart, the blood pump. Some of its duties are outlined and deductions are saliently made from them. 1.       REPLENISHMENT: The first lesson to take from the coronary artery is that it replenishes the heart. While performing the work of pumping blood to other tissues, the cardiac muscle is replenished by means of its 2 coronary arteries. 2.       DIRECTLY SOURCED: The coronary arteries, unsurprisingly, take origin from the aorta, the main artery leaving the left ventricle, carrying oxygenated blood to all branch arteries of the human body. Thus, it originates from the principal source of maximally oxygenated blood; this points to the fact that it reveres impartation and not opinions. 3.       PERFUSION: The coronary arteries ensure that blood gets to every part of the heart by means of its several branches. Branc...
