CHECKS AND BALANCES: THE VESTIBULAR APPARATUS OF THE INNER EAR

Checks and balances refers to a mechanism designed to limit power a single individual or body of government and provide for the harmonious interrelationship of the people and all of the organs of government or other social institutions. Checks and balances are intended to allow legitimate power to govern and good ideas to be implemented, while abuse of power, corruption, and oppression are minimized.
The good thing about checks and balances is that they prevent a person from using his/her power to gain something at the expense of another.
The vestibular apparatus, located in the human inner ear is responsible for establishing balance in the human body.
The apparatus has 3 main functions:
1.      Plays a major role in subjective sensation of motion and spatial orientation.
2.      Vestibular input to areas of the nervous system involved in motor control elicits adjustments of muscle activity and body position, allowing maintenance of the upright position.
3.      Those inputs to regions of nervous system controlling eye movements helps in stabilization of the eyes in space during head movement (i.e. focus).  This reduces the movement of the image of a fixed object on the retina.

The way this system performs its functions is by utilizing the following components:
1.      Semicircular canals- for control of angular acceleration
2.      Utricle and saccule; comprising the otolith organ- for linear acceleration/gravity control

The human being has its conscience as a check and just like the vestibular apparatus; the conscience regulates position, controls ocular (eye) movements, and helps maintain body balance during movement.

LABOURING: IN THE PROCESS OF DREAM BIRTHING (2)

Labour/ birthing of dreams has three main phases, to view the 1st Stage and what it is correlated with, please check LABOURING: IN THE PROCESS OF DREAM BIRTHING . Thank you. WANNABE INTERN

Week 2 Message to the Pre-Intern: don’t lose hope! Week 2, for me, was 2 months post-induction. This was when the wait began to sink in. You mean I’ve been home for two whole months? By now, I was literally chewing on my fingernails. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t scared of getting a space, but I certainly wasn’t confident about any place anymore. That is when I began to write this book. Today is the 12th of September and I sit at the dining table in my parents’ house, typing at 11:27pm (because well, I have an editing job to finish up, but mostly because I don’t have to go anywhere tomorrow morning). If I don’t want to, I don’t even have to take a bath tomorrow morning because well, I can stay indoors all day! (I most likely will stay indoors, except for those few minutes when I step out to buy hot akara for my akamu). I am spent. You know, I have applied to a couple of places now. Let me start with the first: LS Health Service Commission At the State Health servic...
SALIENT LESSONS FROM THE CORONARY ARTERIES The coronary arteries provide blood supply to the heart, the blood pump. Some of its duties are outlined and deductions are saliently made from them. 1.       REPLENISHMENT: The first lesson to take from the coronary artery is that it replenishes the heart. While performing the work of pumping blood to other tissues, the cardiac muscle is replenished by means of its 2 coronary arteries. 2.       DIRECTLY SOURCED: The coronary arteries, unsurprisingly, take origin from the aorta, the main artery leaving the left ventricle, carrying oxygenated blood to all branch arteries of the human body. Thus, it originates from the principal source of maximally oxygenated blood; this points to the fact that it reveres impartation and not opinions. 3.       PERFUSION: The coronary arteries ensure that blood gets to every part of the heart by means of its several branches. Branc...
