DOMINANT S GENE, RECESSIVE S GENE: ON OBSESSIVENESS AND MODERATION

Some individuals with the S gene (i.e. sickle cell trait) are protected by this gene somewhat, while others with this same gene are maximally at risk of crises!

Why is this?

This is just because of the secrets of dominance and recessiveness of this gene. i.e. individuals with AS(normal gene + sickle cell gene) genotype have lesser risk of coming down with malaria, while those with the SS genotype (2 sickle cell genes) are relatively exposed to sickling of their red blood cells and many other diseases associated with their typical crises.

Moderation is the ability to conform to a particular range of normalcy, without being overtly excessive. Obsessiveness, on the other hand is a reference to a state of addiction to the premiering of a cause or inability to constrain one’s self from doing something one is passionate about.

Obsessiveness could result in crisis, as much as the over-expression of the S gene could result in the much known sickle-cell crisis.

Week 2 Message to the Pre-Intern: don’t lose hope! Week 2, for me, was 2 months post-induction. This was when the wait began to sink in. You mean I’ve been home for two whole months? We all have about 6 needs, which we have to uncover, not necessarily create: · CERTAINTY · UNCERTAINTY · SIGNIFICANCE · CONNECTION & LOVE · GROWTH · CONTRIBUTION, WHICH IS BEYOND OURSELVES The first 4 needs don’t necessarily bring about fulfillment but the last two do. You can have all the comfort/certainty in the world and still remain unfulfilled. You could even switch over to variety i.e. uncertainty-yes, you’ld get adrenaline pumping through your veins, but it’ld be temporary. Significance? We all try to find significance, be it through achievements or by gaining recognition as one thing or the other. Connection is a beautiful thing and love is very accepting, irrespective of shortcomings. However, neither significance nor connection nor human love, make us feel fulfilled. Blessed trinity; how many times and in how many ways? How convenient it is for me to try to estimate the virtues that the presence of GOD exudes; in ignorance obviously.
