NOTABLE QUOTES #2 QUOTES ON PURPOSE

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “In the beginning, God created the earth, and he looked upon it in His cosmic loneliness. And God said, "Let Us make living creatures out of mud, so the mud can see what we have done." And God created every living creature that now moveth, and one was man. Mud as man alone could speak. God leaned close to mud as man sat up, looked around, and spoke. Man blinked. "What is the purpose of all this?" he asked politely.
"Everything must have a purpose?" asked God.
"Certainly," said man.
"Then I leave it to you to think of one for all this," said God.
And He went away.”

“Lord, when I feel that what I'm doing is insignificant and unimportant, help me to remember that everything I do is significant and important in your eyes, because you love me and you put me here, and no one else can do what I am doing in exactly the way I do it.”  ≈≈ Brennan Manning

“It does not matter how long you are spending on the earth, how much money you have gathered or how much attention you have received. It is the amount of positive vibration you have radiated in life that matters,” ≈≈ Amit Ray

“Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” ≈≈ Shannon L. Alder

“A writer - and, I believe, generally all persons - must think that whatever happens to him or her is a resource. All things have been given to us for a purpose, and an artist must feel this more intensely. All that happens to us, including our humiliations, our misfortunes, our embarrassments, all is given to us as raw material, as clay, so that we may shape our art.” ≈≈ Jorge Luis Borges

“If you always do what is easy and choose the path of least resistance, you never step outside your comfort zone. Great things don’t come from comfort zones.” ≈≈ Roy Bennett

“I look upon ourselves as partners in all of this, and that each of us contributes and does what he can do best. And so I see not a top rung and a bottom rung - I see all this horizontally - and I see this as part of a matrix. And I see every human being as having a purpose, a destiny, if you like - the destiny that exists in each of us - and find ways and means to provide such opportunities for everyone.” ≈≈ Jonas Salk

“The purpose of life is not to be happy—but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you lived at all.”  ≈≈ Leo Rosten

“Find a purpose to serve, not a lifestyle to live.” ≈≈ Criss Jami

“To me it seems that too many young women of this time share the same creed. 'Live, laugh, love, be nothing but happy, experience everything, et cetera et cetera.' How monotonous, how useless this becomes. What about the honors of Joan of Arc, Beauvoir, Stowe, Xena, Princess Leia, or women that would truly fight for something other than just their own emotions?” ≈≈ Criss Jami

“It is not true that everyone is special. It is true that everyone was once special and still possesses the ability to recover it.” ≈≈ Criss Jami

“You are one thing only. You are a Divine Being. An all-powerful Creator. You are a Deity in jeans and a t-shirt, and within you dwells the infinite wisdom of the ages and the sacred creative force of all that is, will be and ever was.”  ≈≈ Anthon St. Maarten

“But beware of this about callings: they may not lead us where we intended to go or even where we want to go. If we choose to follow, we may have to be willing to let go of the life we already planned and accept whatever is waiting for us. And if the calling is true, though we may not have gone where we intended, we will surely end up where we need to be.”
≈≈
Steve Goodier

“Never question the power of one! Throughout history it has been the actions of only one person who has in inspired the movement of change.” ≈≈ Steve Maraboli

“The key is for you to discover what you love to do, what you were created to do, and then do it for the people around you with love. That is the abundant life, dear girl, no matter where in the world you live.”  ≈≈ Robin Jones Gunn

WANNABE INTERN

Week 2 Message to the Pre-Intern: don’t lose hope! Week 2, for me, was 2 months post-induction. This was when the wait began to sink in. You mean I’ve been home for two whole months? By now, I was literally chewing on my fingernails. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t scared of getting a space, but I certainly wasn’t confident about any place anymore. That is when I began to write this book. Today is the 12th of September and I sit at the dining table in my parents’ house, typing at 11:27pm (because well, I have an editing job to finish up, but mostly because I don’t have to go anywhere tomorrow morning). If I don’t want to, I don’t even have to take a bath tomorrow morning because well, I can stay indoors all day! (I most likely will stay indoors, except for those few minutes when I step out to buy hot akara for my akamu). I am spent. You know, I have applied to a couple of places now. Let me start with the first: LS Health Service Commission At the State Health servic...

NERVOUS TIME: CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THE NERVOUS SYSTEM AND TIME

Although the nervous system is a pretty tangible mass comprising nervous tissue mainly, and time is quite intangible; there are pretty astonishing facts that they seemingly buttress in spite of their clear differences. Taking a break from our series on hearing right, we observe the astounding similarities between the nervous system’s component, the brain and time. 1.       Both offer you a grand choice : You  can decide to either fritt away or invest your time, as much as you can choose to waste a large part of your brain while shying away as much as possible from doing anything remotely mentally-exerting. 2.         Memory: The common phrase “Time will tell” briefly encapsulates the fact that time really, does manage to bring up decisions, actons, words of the past to stare into our faces. The concept of memory (which time makes use of) isn’t any stranger. Memory storage occurs in the brain; and certainly, in the hea...

FRUSTRATED???

Sometimes in doubt...but never gonna give up! Sometimes life in and out of the world of medicine could be downright frustrating. What do you do in such situations? Simply watch life unfold or what? I don’t know. Really. I wish I could tell you: Be strong! But sometimes, motivational speeches should be shoved down the closet- deep down. Cos they won’t work. So I’d tell you: look to the Lord and his strength, seek him even in the midst of your pain and the storms around you, cos the sun will shine again. It will. Cos God promises it will.
